Preventive Cardiology
& TAVI

Preventing a heart attack is always better than treating one. Dr. Minocha helps patients control cholesterol, BP and sugar using the latest evidence — including newer therapies he has studied in international trials. For patients with a severely narrowed aortic valve, TAVI replaces the valve through a catheter, without open-heart surgery.

Procedures, explained simply.

Prevention

Preventive Cardiology

What it is

A complete check of your heart risk — family history, BP, sugar, cholesterol, weight, smoking and lifestyle — with a clear, personal plan.

Why it is done

Lowers the chance of a first or repeat heart attack or stroke.

Cholesterol

Lipid Management & Newer Therapies

What it is

Bringing LDL ('bad') cholesterol to target with statins and, when needed, newer medicines. Lp(a), an inherited risk factor, is tested when appropriate.

Why it is done

Lower LDL means lower risk. Dr. Minocha has been an investigator in trials of newer lipid therapies such as inclisiran and pelacarsen.

TAVI

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

What it is

A new aortic valve is placed through a catheter, usually from the groin, inside the old narrowed valve — without opening the chest.

Why it is done

For severe aortic stenosis, especially in older patients or those at higher risk from open-heart surgery.

Structural

Structural Heart & Transcatheter Therapies

What it is

Assessment of valve and other structural heart problems with echo and CT, and advice on catheter-based or surgical treatment.

Why it is done

Helps choose the right treatment at the right time, after a heart-team discussion.

Who may need it

Your doctor may suggest this if you have:

  • A family history of early heart disease
  • High cholesterol, high BP or diabetes
  • After a heart attack, angioplasty or bypass — to prevent another event
  • Breathlessness, chest pain or fainting due to a tight aortic valve
  • Older patients who are at high risk for open-heart surgery

How it is done.

  1. Risk assessment

History, ECG, echo and blood tests — cholesterol, sugar and Lp(a) when needed.

  2. Personal plan

Medicines, diet, exercise and clear targets, explained simply.

  3. Treatment

Medicines for prevention; TAVI after a heart-team evaluation for valve disease.

  4. Follow-up

Regular reviews to keep you on target.

Before the procedure

  • Bring all your recent blood reports and a list of your medicines
  • Note your home BP and sugar readings for a week, if possible
  • For TAVI: an echo and a CT scan are needed to plan the valve size
  • A dental check-up may be advised before a valve procedure
  • Come with a family member for the discussion

After & recovery

  • Take your medicines every day — do not stop statins on your own
  • Walk for about 30 minutes on most days, as advised
  • Eat more vegetables, fruit and whole grains; less salt, fried food and sugar
  • After TAVI, most patients walk within a day or two and go home in a few days
  • Keep regular follow-up tests and visits

Common questions.

Where can I get a heart check-up near Karkarduma or Vaishali?

Preventive heart check-ups are available at Dr. Minocha's Vikas Marg clinic near Karkarduma Metro and at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali. TAVI is performed at Max Vaishali after a heart-team evaluation.

When should I get my heart checked?

Every adult should know their BP, sugar and cholesterol. If you have diabetes or high BP, smoke, or have a family history of early heart disease, a preventive check-up with a cardiologist is a good idea.

Are statins safe for long-term use?

For most people, statins are safe and greatly reduce the risk of heart attack. Side effects such as muscle pain can occur — if they do, talk to your doctor instead of stopping the medicine yourself.

Who is suitable for TAVI?

Patients with severe aortic stenosis — especially older patients or those at higher surgical risk. The decision is made after echo, CT scan and a heart-team evaluation.
